About PGHwiki

PGHwiki is a People's Guide to the City, by those that live in and/or love Pittsburgh. It first came on online on 2006-06-16 thanks to FarMcKon and HeatherYager, but between mid 2007 and late 2009 it endured a long period of inactivity. DanWillenbring moved to Pittsburgh from Davis, CA, home of the enormously successful DavisWiki and desired the same resource for his new home. In October 2009, he began dusting off the entries and getting the wiki back on the right path.

There are a couple of other wikis with a Pittsburgh focus. The Fix PA wiki, hosted at the for-profit wikia.com (note the ads), focuses on politics and activist issues. The http://pghwiki.org is run by Chip Walter who receives funding from the Heinz Family Philanthropies; it focuses exclusively on developing a regional transportation plan for Pittsburgh.

This wiki does not intend to compete or replace either one of these efforts. The mission of the PGHwiki is to build community by providing a free, user-created, user-editable resource for the Pittsburgh region. It is a place for Pittsburghers to record local knowledge and practical information.
